Adaptation & Extinction Blair

Organisms that are not able to adapt to their environment can become extinct fairly quickly, or gradually. If organisms cannot adjust to their new surroundings quickly, then they will cease to live. If there is suddenly not a much water as there used to be, then they need to move, or quickly learn to survive with less water. If they fail to do so, then they die. Natural selection says that organisms with traits better suited to their environments, will live. The ones with the traits not suited to their environments will die. Organisms that adapted, will pass their genes on to the next generation. The process of natural selection gradually makes a species or population more equipped to live in a certain area at a certain time. If trees suddenly become very sparse in the jungle, things that camouflaged into the tree’s green and brown colors, will be more likely to be killed. However, if the organisms learn to blend in with something else, then the will survive.
